Monday 11th January 2021
Today, we are going to look at our new spellings for this week, play some games with our spellings and then you are going to learn these spellings at home over this week like you would do if we were in school, and then next Monday we will have our spelling test and new spellings will be set. You can watch the video of Mrs Hodgson going through your new spellings and playing some games with you on the video centre. Once you have watched the video, have a go at finding some of your spellings in the wordsearch below. Your spelling rule for this week is: /aI/ (igh, i-e, ie, i, y) words spelt with ‘i’ in year 2 common exception words. Find, kind, mind, behind, child, wild, climb.
Also today, we are going to do some handwriting practise as we know that you were all enjoying learning to join your letters before Christmas focussing on correct letter formation. Watch the video (video centre) of Mrs Hodgson doing this lesson. You can pause the video if needed and practise your lovely handwriting along with me. We will be focussing on the ‘ar’ join and the ‘an’ join.
This week in maths we are going to finish off the work we have been doing on multiplication (x) and division (÷).
First of all, play the following game by clicking here to recap your knowledge on fact families from last week.
Once you have completed this, play the fact family fishing game attached below - you will need two or more players, a dice and either a counter or pen for each player.
Then watch and listen to Miss Balfe's PowerPoint which you can watch on the school website video centre (you can access this page here) which explains today's objective before completing the incomplete number sentences worksheet attached below.
To start with, we are going to look at a world map and find out about continents. Watch Mrs Graham's first video, on the school website video centre (Continents) - click here. Next get your knowledge organiser and watch her second video (Knowledge Organiser) - click here. Afterwards have a go at matching the continents to their names on the worksheet provided, below. Perhaps you could explore a world map yourself by using an atlas, globe or by going onto Google Earth by clicking here.
Did you know that PE with Joe Wicks is back? He will be doing a 20 minute PE lesson on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 am. Go to his youtube channel to watch. Here you can find his first ever PE with Joe Wicks, from March last year click here.
