Today, we are going to write descriptively about Florence Nightingale. First of all, I would like you to think about, what words do we use to describe nouns? And in today’s lesson, what words do we use to describe proper nouns (people)? Say some examples of describing words for people. Next, open the PowerPoint or the video of Mrs Hodgson (video centre) to start the lesson. Once you have listened to Mrs Hodgson on the video centre, I would like you to carry on with creating your own spider diagram of as many adjectives as you can think of that describe Florence Nightingale. Picture her in your head. What type of person is she? We will use this spider diagram to help us with tomorrow’s writing. Write it down on a piece of paper or in a workbook if you have one or alternatively you can print off the worksheet below.

Once you have watched the video complete the attached worksheet on making equal groups. Just like we would do at school, you can choose to do questions 1 - 12 set A or B. Or if you feel like a real challenge you might choose to do both sets! How many questions would that be in total - 12 lots of (x) 2?...
We are going to learn about the materials of objects all around us and their properties. What can you remember about materials from when you were in year 1? Watch The National Academy lesson - What is a material? - by clicking here (approximately 20 minutes long) to learn about materials and their properties. 'What is a material activity' worksheet is provided below to use during and after the video - you will need paper, pencil and a coloured pencil.
Get active - today, for science, we would like you to get out into your garden or go for a walk and really look at the objects around you. What materials are they made from? Explore their properties - check before you touch anything - using your sense of touch, sight, smell and hearing.
