Year 1 Updates

Dear 1J,

We had so much fun video calling Mrs Hodgson, your new teacher, to ask her questions and get to know her.

We filmed it so the children that are at home can get to know her too!

We hope you enjoy!! laugh

Message about the two weeks at home

Good Afternoon Year 1!

On Friday, you will be learning from home again for the last two weeks of term. We hope you've enjoyed your time in school seeing your friends in school and your teacher.

We have set a project task for the last two weeks of term. Please use the handbook below (sent home on Friday or available at the front office) to revisit activities they did in Year 1 to strengthen their knowledge and understanding.

Do as little or as much as you can and please update this to the blog so we can see what you are up to.

Please also use the list of phonics and Maths to know where your child should aim to be before going to Year 2.

Good luck and have fun! laugh

Weekly Message

Hello Year 1

Hope you have all have a great weekend even if the weather was a little rainy!

You can find all of this week’s home learning on our class page.

In English this week, try to write a diary entry as if you were the colour monster. There is a PowerPoint to help you and shows you what is included in a diary. You can also follow one of the BBC bitesize lessons all about questions to write your own questions to ask the colour monster too.

In Phonics this week, you can recap all the split digraphs we have read last week and then start looking at the alternative pronunciations for the graphemes a, e, i and o. There are PowerPoints to help you with words to read and games to play.

In Maths this week, you can explore: mass and weight, capacity and volume and time. There are lots of PowerPoints to look at and activities that match up. Have a look at the website links on the planning sheet too.

In Geography this week, we are looking at coasts, follow the PowerPoint and write a postcard. Mrs Johnson has set lots of new fun Art challenges for July! In Science, we are exploring the season of summer! What do you know about summer? Can you draw a picture and describe the summer months? In PSHE, we are looking at sun safety and what you will need to pack to stay safe in the sun.

Next week, Miss James and Mrs Partington will be sharing a project with you to complete over the next two weeks of home learning, keep a look out for instructions coming soon.

Remember to keep posting pictures and comments on our class blog, I know your friends love to see what you’re learning.

Have a great week everyone! laugh

Weekly Message

Good Morning Year 1!

We hope that you have all had a restful weekend and you are now ready for home learning!

All the planning and resources are ready on our class page under the ‘Home Schooling’ tab. Look for ‘Week 4 29.6.2020’ and you will find all the resources you need. This week for English, we are reading a new story called ‘The Colour Monster’, you can follow the link to the YouTube video on the planning to watch and listen to the story. You can then colour a monster and talk about different feelings as well as  much more! In Phonics this week we are looking at split digraphs, there is a split digraph for every day of the week and plenty of games to keep you busy! In Maths this week we are learning addition, subtraction and fractions. In History, you can learn all about seaside holidays now and in the past and in Geography you can learn all about coasts. In Art this week we are exploring the work of an Artist called Georgia o’Keeffe, she produced the most amazing flower pictures, why not create your own?

As always, keep posting your pictures and messages to our class blog as we love seeing what you get up to!

Have a great week of home learning  laugh

Monday 22nd June 2020

Hello Year 1!

We hope that you and your families have had a lovely weekend and have enjoyed the sunny weather!

Some of you will be returning to school today, the teachers are very excited to be teaching you! Some of you will be continuing with your learning at home. Everything you need is on our class page in the 'Home Schooling 2020' tab. In English, you can have a go at writing a letter. In Maths, you will be learning all about money! In Phonics, you can practise and read lots of words. In Topic, you can learn about hot and cold climates. So many interesting things to be learning about! It is important to have lots of different activities during the day and if you can make sure you are keeping active too, this helps with your learning! The teachers are very proud of all the hard work you are doing at home, we think you are amazing, keep it up!

We hope you enjoy your learning this week and keep uploading your photos and messages to our class blog.

Have a fantastic week Year 1! laugh

Friday 19th June 2020

           Hi Year 1

I really can't believe that this will be my last morning update. I have got so used to finding daft pictures to add to my message. I'll have to find something different to do now. As you all know, school re-opens on Monday for Year 1. There are a lot of you coming back which is really lovely. I know not everyone is able to at the moment so make sure you keep checking the blog because we will still be adding the odd message on there. In fact we can probably write one to you from the classroom. Let us know too how you are so we can reply.

I have been into school today for breakfast club so stayed to get things ready. I know Miss James added a photo earlier in the week of her classroom so I thought I would take a couple too. The Year 2 classrooms which we will be using as well, look very similar.

The tables are set out differently so that there is enough space in between each of you but you are not too far away from your friends. You will all have your own resources like the last picture and there are lots of little friends already waiting to meet you. This one is hiding a little dog.

Both classes will be split in half. Some of you with Me or Miss James and some of you will be with Miss Balfe or Mrs Hodgson who are both really excited to get to know you all. You will see everyone else in Year 1 during different times of the day. It's all very exciting.

We will put a message on the blog later today telling you the days we are doing PE and Forest Schools and what you need to know ready for next week.

Don't forget to send any work you have done this week for the gallery or put it on the blog. We still want to see what you've been doing. If you fancy listening to some stories today, BBC have some being read aloud. Follow the link.

I believe the weather is going to improve. I got absolutely soaked during my walk today. It's been a long time since I spent so long out in the rain. I hope today is better.

So for the last time, I am going to say... Have a lovely day. Enjoy your weekend.

Make sure you get some early nights. You'll need lots of energy next week if you are coming back.

Take care everyone.

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James heart

  Tears of joy!

Thursday 18th June 2020

Good Morning Year 1!

I hope you are all okay and keeping yourselves busy during this episode of crazy weather!! laugh

This will be my (Miss James) last daily message on the website because I am in school tomorrow (Friday) and then Year 1 are coming back to school on Monday which I am very much looking forward to! Can you believe its been around 3 months since school closed?! I'm sure you have all grown so much and I can't wait to see the children that are able to return.

Mrs Partington explained in her message yesterday that school is looking a little bit different and we are all learning (even me!) about how school will be for the next few weeks. I am looking forward to playing games with you and having lots of fun in our bubbles! I did After School Club for the first time yesterday which was lovely. I am learning new things and doing new things just like you!! smiley

I uploaded a spelling video to the Home Learning page yesterday if you haven't seen it yet. I am hoping to do another one when I am back at school and hopefully I can show you our new classrooms. Remember to grab a pencil and piece of paper before starting so you can join in and complete the spellings!

Please keep uploading to the blog and sharing what you have been up to! I saw Elise today and because she had posted on the blog about her holiday to Israel a few years ago and her new pond we had lots of new and exciting things to talk about! laugh. Even though I am back at school from Monday we will still be looking at the blog and we can even look at it during school hours and show the children that are in school what you are up to if you are still at home.

I have loved writing to you each day and it's very strange that it is coming to an end and that this is my last daily message!

I am very excited for our new adventure together!!

Have a fabulous weekend and see you soon.

Love from Miss James smiley

Wednesday 17th June 2020

 Good morning year 1.

I hope you are all well and managed to get a good nights sleep last night. I hope the thunder and lightning didn't wake you. It was a noisy storm wasn't it?  The rain yesterday was really heavy but it was actually quite warm too. It is getting better and is hopefully going to be much better next week.

So school is beginning to open up for more children today. We have year 6 and Nursery starting back today and then year 1 next Monday. Miss James and I are really looking forward to seeing you again. It will be a little bit different. Mrs Collins has put some photographs on the blog of what the classrooms might look like when you come back.  Mrs Ferdinand has made a short video of her classroom. The tables are separated like the government have said we need to, to keep you safe. You will all have your own set of equipment and you'll need to socially distance. We will talk about all of this when you come back. Most importantly, we will have lots of fun and you'll see lots of your friends again. We know you are looking forward to seeing each other and I'm sure you'll all be happy.

The EDS have sent some home learning activities all about Australia so I have uploaded those for you if you want to have a look.

I am covering breakfast club this morning so it's a very early start for me. I need to be at work for 7.30 am. I think a lot of you will still be fast asleep! If you are reading this, you will have woken up by now so have a lovely day today and keep adding your messages to the blog. I really enjoy reading them.

Tuesday 16th June 2020

Good morning Year 1!

I hope you all had a good start to the week yesterday!

I have seen that BBC Bitesize are doing dividing lessons on their website this week which will help towards the Maths work we have put on for this week. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Did you have thunder and rain near you yesterday? I saw Mrs Hodgson yesterday and she said she didn't have any near her house but we had lots of rain near me! I quite enjoy thunder and lightening when you are inside watching it through the window.

Yesterday I found some fun games that we might be able to play when we are back in school together. Take a look and see if there are any that you can play at home with you grown ups. See if you can learn any and then maybe you can teach it to us when we are back together in school.

Have another great day! There is more rain expected this afternoon. Maybe you can put a measuring jug in the garden before it starts and measure how much rainfall we have.

From Miss James and Mrs Partington

Monday 15th June 2020

Hello Year 1, I hope you are all well and have had a great weekend. What have you all been doing?

Its the start of a new week. Miss James and I have put some new home learning in the home learning folder. This week we are starting to look at hot and cold countries. This will lead on to animals that come from these countries too. Did any of you manage to visit the Heaton's Zoo?  I read the information about it and it sounded amazing. There were a couple of houses near me that had some animals in their garden. I believe there were animals on display from all over the worId.  It raised a lot of money to help Chester Zoo.

Quite a lot of our work involves using the internet so we have been sent a link with some e-safety information for you to look at. Just a reminder to stay safe when you are using electronics.

Think u know - Home activity packs for parents

The resources have been created by Think U Know (CEOP) to support parents during COVID-19. Each fortnight, they will be releasing new home activity packs with simple 15 minute activities for parents to  do with their child to support their online safety at a time when they will spending more time online at home.

Please click on the link below to access the resources

If you have visited the blog you will have seen the message I added on Friday but in case you haven't, I have put a video on the home learning/videos page of me reading a story. I thought it might be something different and it was lovely doing it. It reminded me of story time in class.

imoves are offering some home access if you fancy something physical to do. We have used these in class and they are always good fun, so take a look if you can.

The weather yesterday was lovely. I took Harvey for a walk in his new harness but he wasn't very happy. He sat on the pavement refusing to move. He has never liked new things at first. I managed to get him moving by bribing him with some sausage and eventually we enjoyed a nice warm walk! I hope it stays like that this week.

I hope you all   today. Don't forget to add a message or upload some work onto the blog if you can.

Take care everyone

Love from Mrs. Partington and Miss James smileyheart

Friday 12th June 2020

Well hello there year 1!

It's been a long time since I wrote a good morning message so it's so nice to be able to say hello again. How are you all? What have you been up to over the last couple of weeks? I haven't been doing very much apart from my daily walks. I was in school a little over the Whit holidays and I am working in school this week too.

Miss James told you about our new topic which is all about holidays. It's a lovely topic and it made me think about all the lovely holidays I've been on. I would love to hear about your favourite holiday on the blog. It would be really nice if you could post a message. If you haven't been on there yet, have a look today. Make your avatar and leave us a quick message. We really do like seeing them.

Have you had a look at the June art challenge? I really fancy the Zentangles activity so I am going to have a go at this in school today. I'll try and put a copy of what I do on the blog - remember to share yours too.

It's great that more places are opening again soon, there are more parks, shops and other places like zoos opening again soon. Let us know if you have any days out and remember to stay safe when you visit these places.

There have been and are going to be one or two birthdays   so Happy Birthday - Henry, Samuel and Noah!

I'm going to let you get on with your day now. Have a lovely time today everyone and I'll speak to you all again soon.

Take care

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Thursday 11th June 2020

Hello Year 1!

I hope you all had a good day yesterday starting our new topic "Happy Holidays!"

Did you remember about a special holiday? I'd love to see some photos on the blog!

The weather is not as sunny as we've had but the rain is good for the garden and then plants!

Take a look at some of the Forest School activities from BSS Stockport called "Wild Wellbeing"

Some videos and ideas about what you can do when you are out and about or even in the garden.

Here are come Computing resources that you might want to look at too around keeping safe online:

If you have started a new hobbie or if you have been doing something you love then we'd love to hear from you too.

It was lovely to hear from Zayd and Daniel yesterday. Daniel has been doing lots of fishing and Zayd has been playing football and riding his bike! Well done!

Have a lovely day and keep smiling! laugh

From Miss James and Mrs Partington

Welcome Back Year 1!

Good Morning Superstars! We hope you had a wonderful half term break. We've missed you!

Today we would be starting our new and final topic, Happy Holidays!

I love this topic because it get us excited for Summer and it's a chance to hear about all the wonderful holidays you have been on. During this topic we will be looking at old and new holidays, coastlines and countries in Geography and reading lovely stories about the seaside and different holidays in English.

Did you have any holiday plans this year?

Miss James was meant to attend a wedding in Spain over half term which was sadly cancelled but I am now looking forward to this next year!

Take some time today to remember a holiday you have been on in the UK or in another country.

Why did you love this holiday?

It's only a 3 day week this week but Mrs Partington and I have added some Maths and English activities to keep you busy in the "Home Schoolling" Icon as usual. We have also added a few topic activities:

- World Ocean Day activities

- Designing a suitcase and passport

- The June Art Challenge

Remember we love to see what you have been up to!

Please use the blog and keep us updated on how you are feeling and how you are keeping busy.

I'm sure some of you will  have mixed emotions about the recent change in plans but we want to remind you that we are here for you and we are very proud of you.

I can't wait to kick start our new topic with you all today!

Good Luck! laugh

From Miss James and Mrs Partington

Friday 22nd May 2020

Good morning Year 1 and parents.

I hope you have had a great week and have been enjoying the lovely weather.

I can’t believe we’ve come to the end of the week and the end of the half term. I don’t know about you but the time seems to have passed so quickly.

The next two weeks are the holidays, which means you can take a break, although I did suggest the reading challenge, which would be great to do. After the holidays is a couple of in-service days, where school wouldn’t be open but after that there will be some more home learning for you if you need it.

You might want to keep doing some work because you still can’t go out very much so just look through the previous home learning work on the website and maybe choose something you’ve not already done.

I have uploaded a home learning fun sheet for you to look at and if you like try to do all the different things it suggests. The BBC Bite size programs start again on the 1st June so I have uploaded their schedule for that week and the next.

I am not sure what I’ll be doing next week, I suppose it depends on the weather but I would like to get outside a little more and perhaps make my walks a little longer. The second week Miss James and I are working in school for a couple of days.

There are a couple of birthdays during the holidays - Arno, Hope and Sammy. Have a lovely day and happy 6th Birthday.

I really liked the little picture below so I wanted to share it with you. It’s really important that you stay happy and keep smiling. I will miss checking in with you each morning but you do need to switch off a little and have a rest.

Have a great day today and enjoy the next couple of weeks. We really miss you and hope to see you soon.

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Thursday 21st May 2020

Happy 6th Birthday to

Charlotte. Have a lovely

Birthday today.

Did you know my daughter is also called Charlotte? It will be her birthday in a few weeks – she will be 15!

Good morning Year 1 and happy Thursday! I hope you are all well today. Did you enjoy the sunshine yesterday? It was lovely wasn’t it? How did you spend your day in the sunshine? Paddling Pools, water fights or just lazing in the garden?

I had my walk earlier in the day with Harvey as it was too warm at our usual time 3.30pm and then he went out again in the evening when it was much cooler..

Do you like playing with lego? I have uploaded an information pack called

It has lots of fun challenges and games that you can play together with

Your family – it will be something different to do during the holidays too.

How are you getting on with your animal research? I’m looking forward to seeing what you have found out. This activity may have involved a lot of screen time if you were researching online so I have uploaded a screen time challenge for you to complete during the holidays. Try not to spend too much time on computers and if you do want to, try completing the challenge sheet first.

The EDS (Ethnic Diversity Service) have sent through their latest activities for you to look at – this week it is all about visiting Spain from home. You might like to try one of their activities.

Today looks dry again but maybe not as warm. I hope that you’ll be able to play or work outside still. laugh

Don’t forget to use the year group blog and thank you to those who have posted messages and photos.

Have a lovely day today and I’ll check in again tomorrow.

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Wednesday 20th May 2020

Good morning to you all and happy Wednesday. I hope you are all well and having a lovely week so far. Today looks like it’s going to be a really warm day so slap on some sun cream and have lots of fun outside.

We have now had a few messages on the class blog, which is great, and some pictures. If nothing else today,, try and write a message to your class friends saying ‘Hello’, I’m sure they’d love to hear from you.

I’ve uploaded a list of 100 fun things to do inside. It sometimes gets difficult to think of something new to do that’s exciting and different. Have a look through the list and see if there is anything you fancy doing that you’ve not yet tried.

I said yesterday that Harvey was finally having a hair cut. He looks amazing and feels so much better – he’s not actually told me that but I think that’s what he feels! Before and after pics...

Because the Whit holiday is coming up and we don’t set any work or do the daily check in (which is a shame) I have added a little challenge for you to do called the ‘Three week reading challenge’. We always ask you to carry on reading during the holidays so I thought this would be a really cool way for you to make sure you look at some books over the next couple of weeks or so. Don’t forget though, to tell us how you did when we return.

I am going to let you get on with your daily activities now so have a lovely day and I’ll send another message tomorrow.

love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Tuesday 19th May 2020

I hope you are all well and had a lovely day yesterday. What did you do?

The annual GM Music Hub Primary Schools’ Singing Challenge is taking place TODAY! (Tuesday 19th May at 2:15pm).

Are you taking part? If you send a video of your child singing to Stockport Music Service, they will receive a certificate.

Another lovely song more suited to years 1, 2, 3 and 4 has also been added to Stockport Music Services You tube page called Together We’re a Rainbow, written by Anne Rees. Access the song using the link below and give it a practice!

As it's mental health awareness week and the theme is kindness, I have added a daily kind act sheet for you to have a look at - perhaps you could do some of the suggested things on it today, I bet your grown ups would like it - and your brothers and sisters!

I have also added the log in details for Oddizzi above the topic planning because it's planned for this week and it's a while since they were posted so may not been easy to find.

The class blogs are now live so you should hopefully receive your log in details this week, we're really looking forward to using it with you.

I'm feeling excited today because Harvey is finally getting his hair cut. He is in desperate need and has actually grown a fringe which is something I've never seen before. I'm sure he'll look very handsome when he gets home.

Thank you for sending in your recent work, it continues to me amazing and Miss James and I are so proud of you all.

So, have a wonderful day today and enjoy whatever you are doing - don't let a bit of rain stop you from getting outside. It should brighten up later too.

Take care everyone

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Make sure you take a look at this amazing video that the children in 1P have put together. Thank you to Hope's mum for organising this.

Monday 18th May 2020

Good morning Year 1's and families of Yr1's too,

I hope you are all well and have had a lovely week. I have missed writing the daily updates and am really happy to be doing them again this week. Thank you Miss James for last week's messages and have a lovely week in school this week.

Miss James has also updated the planning for week 5 and there are lots of exciting activities for you to do. I remember reading your amazing non-chronological reports about Robots so can't wait to see what you write about farm animals.

This week we would have been learning about shapes and Time too. Do you remember making your clocks in school? Perhaps you could make another clock this week.

What have you all been up to this weekend? Have any of you been anywhere different for your daily exercise? I have to admit I haven't been further than the field with Harvey but hope to soon.

I have uploaded an amazing video that the children in 1P have put together. It's brilliant and I know they really enjoyed making it so have a look if you've not seen it yet, there might even be a surprise at the end!! Thank you all of you for making this, it made me really happy to see you all. Have you managed to see the video from the teachers yet? Please do have a look at this too, it will make you smile. (It's on the home learning link under Pupils).

The weather is going to be ok for the next couple of days, especially Wednesday so make sure you do lots of outdoor learning.

I am going to wish you a happy day now and let you get on with some work! Have a lovely day and remember to keep sending us your photos.

Take care everyone and see you soon

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James heart

Friday 15th May 2020

Happy Friday Superstars!

Lots to report today, did you manage to see the amazing video that Mr Newton and Mrs Norbury coordinated?! If not take a look at the video here - https://didsbury.primarysite.media/ I hope it makes you smile as much as it made me smile!! laugh

Do you remember the Stockport Book Awards books we read? We read one called "My Pet Star".

For today only there are one activities you can do around the book if you follow the link below.

A full day of activities planned tomorrow around My Pet Star if any of your younger children wanted to take part. Tune in to the booktrust website or follow them on social mediahttps://www.booktrust.org.uk/search/#!?q=my%20pet%20star&type=All&sortOption=Relevance&pageNo=1

I am going to upload photos to the Home Schooling area of our class page today, I have received some lovely ones this week and want to share them with you. Well done everyone. I'm so proud of all the work you've been doing over the last SIX weeks!!! You are all superstar learners.

Finally, something for the grown ups, the Government website keep updating us with a range of resources links and you can look at the whole list below. I know a lot of you are finding it easier to learn/teach when it is something that interests the children and we would much prefer you focus on these areas and leave the tricky stuff until we are back in school. We want the home learning process to be as easy as possible for you and your children. Stick to topics and subjects they like and enjoy the learning with them! :)

I am back in school next week (Miss James) and Mrs Partington will be working from home and updating you next week. Then it's the half term holidays!! You're nearly there!! I've already uploaded the planning for next week and can be seen in the week 5 folder.

It's been lovely checking in each morning this week and I look forward to catching up with you all again soon.

Sending lots of hugs and smiles! I miss you all very much.

From Miss James and Mrs Partington

Thursday 14th May 2020

Happy Thursday Year 1! :)

I hope you all slept well and you are ready to take on another day of home schooling!

I have found some ICT and Computing activities that you might enjoy today:

Take a look at the website and see if there are any activities you would like to do. I'm sure you'll be computing experts after all of this virtual learning at home which is a very valuable skill for later in life.

Whilst looking for Maths activities for next week I found a lot of fun interactive Maths games on https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ too! See which ones you enjoy playing and maybe we can use some of them on interactive whiteboard when we are back in school.

Here is a message from Mrs Norbury too about the Dippy's Explorers singing challenge:

Music Update: Dippy’s Explorers

The annual GM Music Hub Primary Schools’ Singing Challenge is fast approaching next week (Tuesday 19th May at 2:15pm), are you taking part? If you send a video of your child singing to Stockport Music Service, they will receive a certificate. See details in flier below. Another lovely song more suited to years 1, 2, 3 and 4 has also been added to Stockport Music Services You tube page called Together We’re a Rainbow, written by Anne Rees. Access the song using the link below.

I've also uploaded some activities from the Ethnic Diversity Service that I have been sent and this week they have sent information about India! Take a look and see what you can learn. File below.

Happy learning today and remember to keep smiling and to give yourself a reward for working hard.

From Miss James and Mrs Partington smiley

Wednesday 13th March 2020

Good Morning! laugh

I hope you have another great day today! Half way through another home schooling week. Well done we are so proud of you.

I have been looking at changing a few of our topics for the new year and we would love your help!

Why not write about a topic you enjoyed and explain why you enjoyed it or what you learned. Or you could write a paragraph about a new topic you think Year 1 children would like or maybe a spider diagram to show things you would like to learn!!

Maybe it's superheros or aliens or fairy tales or a favourite story!! Just to remind you of the topics we have done so far... "Magical Me", "Toytastic", "Hooray for the Heatons" and now we are doing our "Funky Farmers" topic. This is a chance to share everything we learned at school with you grownups and remember how much fun we had!

Feel free to send us any ideas you have! Have you done something fun whilst you've been at home that you would like to do when you come back to school?

I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Keep smiling!! We miss seeing your smiley faces everyday! heart

From Miss James and Mrs Partington

Tuesday 12th May 2020

Good Morning 1J and 1P!

I hope you have all had a good start to the week!

Mrs Littlewood sent me a link yesterday to help you find books you might like to read for pleasure. Books for Topics have created posters to help advise on this. If you like an author such as David Walliams then there is a poster that shows books you might also like. Take a look and let us know what you think!

You may or may not remember but last year the school took part in the Great Science Share. In year 1, parents were invited into school and we demonstrated what science we had been learning. We went out onto the field with colour wheels and looked for items that had the same colour. It was great fun!

Here is a message from Mrs Potts the Science Lead at school:

"You may remember last year we took part in the Great Science Share, a national (now global) campaign to get children talking about science, generating scientific questions and sharing science with family members and the wider community. The GSS 2020 was launched last week and I encourage as many of you as possible to visit the website, register your interest and take part in as many activities as possible. Each week will be a new theme: last week was ‘Dawn Chorus’ and this week will be celebrating 200 years of the Royal Astronomical Society. Along with each theme will be an ‘inspirational idea’ for children to get involved with, a live lesson on Wednesday with Dr Chips, opportunities to ask real scientists questions and lots of resources linked to activities you can get involved in at home.

I will keep sharing information with you about this over the next few weeks as it all leads up to the final campaign day on 16th June….but for now, please register and start to get involved!"

The weather is not so good today so why not spend a few moments looking at the Great Science Share and thinking of ideas!

Have a great day and I look forward to catching up with you again tomorrow.

Monday 11th May 2020

Good Morning Year 1!

I hope you all had a nice bank holiday weekend. What did you get up to? The weather on Sunday was amazing!

Mrs Partington has uploaded the new planning for this week and it is now available in week 4 under homeschooling. I can't believe we are on week 4 of this half term already!

What did you learn last week? Please keep sending us any work you are proud of because we would love to see it. Who has been using some of the BBC bitesize activities to help learning at home?

I'm sure there is a lot of uncertainty in households this morning but it was good to hear that Year 1 would be one of the first to go back to school. I'm sure there will be more clarity on this as the week progresses.

Let's have a great week! Keep smiling and trying your best.

We'll be back on Monday

Thursday 7th May 2020

Good Morning Year 1!

We are forecast a lovely sunny day here in Stockport, I can't wait to spend some time in the garden enjoying the sunshine!

Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday so today is the end of the school week. Well done for working hard this week!

What are you going to do with the long weekend? Have you got any exciting plans?

Mr Boris Johnson is making his an announcement on Sunday to update us on the future on lock down. What do you think he will announce?

I miss being in school and learning with you everyday. I am very much looking forward to going back to our normal routine and as the weeks progress we understand how hard it can be to stay motivated at home (children and grown ups!!).

Before the end of the day today why not write a list of things you want to achieve next week? Then, put it to one side and start up again on Monday with an agreed plan to kick start the week!! smiley

I have found some new links to help with Phonics learning. Why not have a look at these today and see if any of them will help your learning?

I had a look at the Letters and Sounds learning videos on YouTube yesterday and they might be useful to you too!

Mrs Hodgson (Year 2) and I made some delicious cookies in school last week and I made them again at home yesterday. Yum! Here is the recipe if you want to have a go? https://www.bakingmad.com/recipe/copycat-millie-s-cookies

I put yellow food colouring in mine instead of vanilla extract because I wasn't concentrating and the bottles look very similar... mine are bright yellow like little sunshines!!! Oops!

Have you done any yummy baking or cooking whilst you've been at home?

Have you had any baking disasters like silly Miss James?!

Have a lovely day my little sunshines... and a wonderful  3 day weekend!

We are so proud of you and miss you all very much.

My Daily Walk!

Wednesday 6th May 2020

Good morning everyone!

I hope you are all well. Did you have a nice Tuesday? I’ve seen some of your work so far this week, which is lovely. Anyone who has not sent something for the gallery can do so by emailing the school admin@didsburyroad.stockport.uk

All emails are then forwarded to us. We love hearing from you all and knowing you’re happy and safe. We can add your work for everyone to see.

I have added a little activity above for you to do if you would like. Every day when I go for my walk with Harvey we take a similar route as he likes to go to the field nearby for a run. I see the same things pretty much each day. I started to wonder if you saw anything similar when you go on your walks so I decided me make a ‘Walking Bingo’ for you to complete. So, next time you’re out walking see if you can spot the same things that I see and let me know how many you find.

You never know, you might even spot them all.

The wildlife trust are offering 30 days free access to their website where they are running a 30-day nature challenge. I know there are many children who love the outdoors and nature so you might really enjoy these activities.  – link below

Also from Mrs. Norbury

The remaining learning videos for the GM Hub Singing Challenge song, Dippy’s Explorers have been uploaded. We would like as many people as possible to learn the song and to sing it on Tuesday 19th May at 2.15 pm. The videos can be found in the same playlist as the song on our YouTube Channel:

It has been lovely doing the update again today

Keep smiling everyone and have a lovely day.

Take care,

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Tuesday 5th May 2020

Good Morning Year 1! :)

Miss James here this morning! It feels like it's been a while since I last wrote the daily message. I was in school last week but now I am back working at home. I have received so many lovely emails this week showing me what you have been up to. I would like to share some photos with you.

I added a link from The National Literacy Trust to the Reading and Phonics part of the Homeschooling page yesterday. It's a book with lots of stories about hope that you could read with your grown ups.

Here is a link to The BSS Forest School service (who I did with my training with) they have started making weekly videos linked to Forest School. https://www.behavioursupportservice.co.uk/bss-forest-school-resources/

I've also uploaded an "Eco" folder below that contains some activities around recycling glass. There is also a competition you can enter if you want to! Take a look at the power point, recourse activities and competition sheets!

I look forward to catching up with you again over the next week and next week when I am working from home.

Keep up the hard work Year 1. I am very proud of you! smiley

Sending lots of smiles and sunshine,

Miss James and Mrs Partington

A little colouring if you feel like a break.

Monday 4th May 2020

Hello again. I hope you’ve all had a great weekend? What have you been doing? Did any of you go anywhere different for your walk or have anything new to eat?

The weather looks like it’s going to get better this week with a lot more sunshine from Wednesday onwards so you’ll be able to get outside a lot more which will be great.smiley

This is the first week neither Miss and James and I are not in school so we’ll both be writing the messages this week. Miss James is looking forward to saying hello tomorrow. laugh

I haven’t done a lot this weekend. I tried to make some honeycomb with Louis my son but we haven’t quite got it right yet. It’s a bit like toffee so we are going to practise that this week. I had a couple of nice dog walks too.

I have a message from Mrs Norbury.

Calling all Lovers of Singing! Greater Manchester Music Hub Singing Challenge! Join in at home on Tuesday 19th May at 2:15pm. The song is called Dippy’s Explorers and celebrates Dippy the Dinosaur. Get learning here:

Mrs Norbury Music Leader

Sounds exciting so might be worth looking into.

Mrs Wilde has also recommended a web site which has some great activities. Your grown ups could have a look maybe.

Change4life    https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/activities/indoor-activities

We have uploaded this week’s activities for you to have a go at. Don’t forget you can do as much as you can and that’s all we expect. We are receiving so many photos of your amazing work. These  are on the website for you all to see. Thank you for sending them in. They’re great!

I have uploaded some colouring sheets in case any of you want to do some colouring as a change from the schoolwork. It’s a nice activity to do when you need a break.

Have a lovely day today everyone and take care

Love from

Mrs Partington and Miss James

Friday 1st May 2020

Hello everyone!

So, it is the 1st day of May today. I love this month. The weather starts to get warmer, the gardens and parks start to look really colourful and May sees National Smile Month in the UK. People born in May often say they are the luckiest and did you know May babies can be up to 7 ounces heavier than those born at other times of the year, meaning that you start life with an extra zing in the pram. smiley

We have a few birthdays coming up in May, Arno, Charlotte and Fletcher heart

Did you have a nice day yesterday? I did some more baking with my daughter. She made chocolate brownies – they were delicious. I think there are some left so I will be pinching one later with my cup of coffee!

A lot of you have said how much you are enjoying doing maths so just a reminder that White Rose have published lots of resources which is organised into year groups so if you want some more you can always visit here.

The weekend is nearly here so make sure you take a break from school work for a couple of days and do something different. You are all doing such an amazing job at home and the quality of work, activities you are sending in is better than we could have ever have hoped for. You’re marvellous children!

Take care of yourselves and stay safe.

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Thursday 30th April 2020

Good morning year 1, I hope you are all well today.

I can't believe today is the last day of April. Where has the month gone? At least we didn't get the usual April showers this year and instead had lots of sunshine.

Happy 100th Birthday to Captain Tom - you have probably seen him on the news raising money for the NHS by walking around his garden. He has raised so much money, what an amazing person he is. heart 100 WOW!

Thank you to Toby for sending in a photo of his amazing cereal box farm, it is absolutely brilliant Toby, you should feel very proud of it. Did anyone else manage to make one?

I have found a great video which helps you learn your key words if you have run out if toilet roll. Have a look and by doing this you will have learnt some new words and completed your PE lesson for today too. yes

What ever you are doing today, have a lovely day and enjoy the last day of April by doing something really fun smiley

Take care everyone and keep sending in all your amazing pictures, I'll keep adding them to the collection so everyone can see your wonderful work.

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James xx

Wednesday 29th April 2020

Good morning Year 1. I hope you are all well today. Did you know, today is International Dance Day. This is celebrated all over the world. I think it would be nice if you played your favourite song and taught yourself a new dance. Maybe you could then teach it to someone else in your house. If not, have a good boogie at some point today.

Yesterday I told you that my dog Harvey was overdue a haircut, he’s sitting watching me type this message so I’ve just taken a photo. He says ‘Hello’.

It looks like the weather has changed a little and we have had some rain, this isn’t too good for playing outside but my garden enjoyed a big drink and it looks like some new flowers have grown. Can you see anything new in your gardens today? smiley

Yesterday Hope sent me a picture she’d drawn for a competition. It was great. I checked with her and she said I could give you the details in case any of you wanted to enter the competition too. You have to design a new creature… It sounds very exciting. Thank you Hope.

I was wondering how you are all doing learning to read and spell the Year 1 tricky words. I saw a great way you could do it if you were looking for a new way to help…

What do you think? Perhaps you could try a few words. If not there is a great website which is free called ‘Teach your Monster to read’. Have a look, I know some of you have already discovered it and are really enjoying it.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Rising Stars reading site where you can access lots of reading books which use the same colour banding as school.

Anyway, I had better let you get on with some work. I hope you have a lovely day today and will check in again tomorrow

Stay safe and be happy

Love from Mrs. Partington and Miss James wink

Tuesday 28th April 2020

I hope you are all well. Yesterday was another lovely day and I received many emails showing me all your hard work.

I’m so proud of everything the children in year 1 have been doing. It looks like the time capsule activity is popular. I’ve seen some brilliant pieces of work.

How many of you are ready for a haircut? I can’t believe how long my fringe is. Even my dog is looking a little scruffy at the moment. The hairdressers, barbers and dog groomers are going to be very busy when they open.

If you are going out for a walk today, have a go at the walking bingo activity. Perhaps you could make a new one with some of the things you see today and then someone in your family could try and spot what you have drawn tomorrow when you go out.

Mrs Clapperton has sent a website with some ideas for more PE activities, follow this link and have a look.

Whatever you decide to do today, have a lovely day, have a go at the work for this week and remember to have fun. Keep sending in your photos we love seeing them.

Take care

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James x

Monday 27th April 2020

Good morning Year 1 and a happy Monday to you all.

I hope you have had a lovely weekend and have been enjoying the lovely weather. How many of you have had your paddling pools out?

I’d just like to start by wishing those of you who have had a birthday since school closed a ‘VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY’ – There are a few of you who have recently turned 6 so Miss James and I hope you had a great day.

I have uploaded this week’s activities. (Have a look at week 2 in the home schooling section). Again, we are trying to make sure we give you some  lessons which cover what we would have been doing in class this week. Have a look at the new website which is showing daily phonics lessons too. Try to do an English, Maths and Topic activity each day if you can.  (Geography - You will need the Power Point from here as it is too large to upload)

As well as this, don’t forget all the other things you can do such as cooking, gardening, craft, playing outside and of course helping around the house! You’ll all be fantastic at this when we go back to school and we will have fantastically tidy classrooms!

Thank you again for all the lovely emails and photographs you’ve been sending in, we should have our class blogs up and running very soon so you’ll be able to send messages and photos via this. Remember to save all your work so you can bring it into school if you like when we go back.

Have a lovely day and stay safe.

Love from Mrs. Partington and Miss James heart

Friday 24th of April 2020

It's Friday!!

Good morning Year 1, thank you for your sentences/poems about Forest School yesterday. I will put them on the website today!

I'm feeling very tired today so i'm sure you are too. Try and keep going for one more day and then you can enjoy the weekend doing what you want to do.

Sometimes it's OK to feel tired and not want to do your school work, everyone feels that way (even grown ups!!). I spoke to my Mummy on the phone yesterday and she is trying to do something good, something bad and something new everyday!

She did:

Good - cleaned the bathroom

Bad - ate lots of chocolate!

New - went on a new walk in the countryside near her house (she lives in Wales!)

Why don't you try and do something good, something bad (not naughty, something which is a bit of fun!) and something new today?

Have a wonderful weekend and keep reminding yourself how brilliant you are.smiley

"Wake up, wake up give your selves a shake up!" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gUbdNbu6ak

Good morning!

How are you getting on with the online resources? We are hoping to have a way that we can share your ideas on the website, starting next week! :)

Today, I am going to be working on the new Forest School page on the website. It's great remembering what we got up to by looking at the old photos. Did you manage to write a story yesterday about your photo?

I would love to have a few comments on the forest school page, from children in Year 1, about what you enjoyed at forest school, what activities or games you liked playing, or how it made you feel.

If anyone would like to write a sentence and send a photo/or email of your sentence to admin@didsburyroad.stockport.sch.uk I would love to add your comments to the new page.

Have another great day! Why not try and do your learning outside today?

From Miss James and Mrs Partington

Wednesday 22nd April 2020

Good Morning Year 1!

It's Wednesday, half way through the school week! smiley

I spent the morning yesterday adding photos to the website under the "Gallery" section. Have a look and see if you can see a picture of yourself. I love looking back at old photos and remembering what I was doing during that time. Why not find a photo around the house today, maybe one of you when you were younger or one  doing something you loved and write about it. You could write something non-fiction or even a fictional story and turn yourself into the main characters of the story. Don't forget to describe the setting and the characters and to think of a title!

Read it to your grownups, siblings or teddies afterwards and see what they think of your writing. Can you use a purple, green or pink colouring pencil to correct any mistakes? Feel free to email or send photos of your work, i'd love to see them!

Have any other great day!! laugh

Tuesday 21st April 2020

Good morning super stars!

I hope you are all enjoying being back into a routine, I know I am! Huge thank you to some of the messages and photos I have been sent. It's so lovely to hear from you and to see what you have been up to.

Hopefully today you can start working through our new activities that are on the website. Try and do some English (phonics and reading included), Maths and topic/subject work everyday to keep you busy. I have added some extra activities in the phonics and reading tab if you want to have a look too!

Remember you can still carry on doing  fun activities such as arts and crafts, construction, baking, PE! I have loved seeing some of your Book Boxes and I can't wait to see them when we are back at school.

I saw a lovely poem yesterday written by someone's Mummy (in County Durham) and I thought it would be nice to share it with you. You are our Rainbow Children and we are so proud of you!!

Have a great day! smiley

Friday 3rd April 2020

Good morning children and parents.

We hope you are well. Today we would have been breaking up for the Easter Holidays  and you would have been looking forward to the two weeks off. Although I have added some new activities (some are Easter ideas) and links we would like you to take a break from school and have some time off from activities. These new additions are just in case! If you would like to, have another look at the previous daily check ins and see if there is any activity you have not tried or a website you have not visited yet like Espresso! smiley

Maybe you could have a go at making an Easter card for someone in your family.

If you like singing, Mrs Norbury has sent us a link to some websites which you can have a look at.

Perhaps you prefer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities. Here is a great link to a daily video with ideas for you.

What ever you choose to do over the next couple of weeks, make sure it makes you smile laugh It's really important that you are happy and that you enjoy your Easter break.

Miss James and I are loving hearing from you and seeing your photos so perhaps you can send us some picture of what you have been up to when we return on the 20th April. This is when we will be checking in again and making sure you are all well.

So for now, have a brilliant Easter. don't eat too much chocolate and stay safe everyone.

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James xx

Thursday 2nd April 2020

Good morning Year 1 and how are we all today? smiley

I'm sure I've just seen Freddie on the BBC breakfast news this morning? Was that you Freddie looking at the amazing bears in someones garden?  I keep seeing pictures of the bears doing all sorts of great things they look brilliant.

Thank you to everyone who decoded and sent in the Alien letter, it's been lovely seeing all your drawings of the planets and well done for working it out. yes

So it's nearly the Easter break, this means you can have a little break from school activities if you want to, but just in case you wanted to continue with some of the activities, we will be adding a few more

Are you remembering to go onto Purple Mash? They are offering daily activities and you can also have another go at making some of the games you were making in class.

Also, make sure you keep practising your phonics. We were looking at phase 5 at school, there are lots of great videos on youtube to help you. I really like Mr Mc he does some great lessons, have a look.

If you like exploring places and finding out more about where we live, you can visit an amazing website called Oddizzi.com

To log on your username is year1pj and your password is class1pj , have a look! See what you can find out.

Also, there are some great activities if you watch 'Stuckers' on you tube, its for people 'stuck' at home. The activities are things you can do at home and are really good fun.

Stuckers videos

  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIrrvK0fmgs
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FszFnPQ42OM

Also, if you are running out of reading books, you can visit oxfordowl.co.uk and get your grown ups to register as a home user. You can then access lots of reading books and pick the level you want to read.

It would be lovely to see some of your writing as Miss James and I love reading your stories. Have a look at the creative writing PowerPoints and choose an idea. Send in your writing when you've completed it. yes

Finally, being at home gives you plenty of time to be kind to each other, see if you can make the kindness calendar above and write down or draw something you do each day that is kind. I'm sure you'll have lots of different things to choose from. heart

I think you have a few new things to have a look at today, hopefully these will keep you busy and out of mischief! wink

Have a lovely day Year 1 and we'll speak to you again tomorrow

Take care

Good morning Year 1

April fool’s Day is always celebrated on the 1st April. People play pranks and

practical jokes on each other. Only until 12 midday, otherwise the joke

Is on you. Has anyone played a joke on you this morning?

We are now into a new month – April (April is named after the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite)

Did you know that April is the first of the four months that have 30 days -

April, June, September and November

There are also two flowers associated with the month of April – the daisy and the sweet pea. Keep an eye out for any of these when you’re on your walk or in your gardens.

Did you manage to complete any of the activities from yesterday? I did receive a couple of completed Alien Letters – Well done Sam and Naomi!  smiley

What will you be doing today?

If you are not too sure, why not have a go at an activity you’ve not done yet or here are more for today.

If you fancy a maths activity - or maybe some art try today's activities.

You could have a look at these science activities too – click on the word science

Enjoy exploring these new activities and enjoy your day.

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Good morning and happy Tuesday year 1 smiley

We hope you are all well and managing to keep busy. It's a real pity the weather has changed a little but hopefully you are still

managing to get outside and get some fresh air.

Who managed to have a go at the scavenger hunt yesterday? I asked my own children to do it and they managed to find a lot of the things. They are going to finish it off later today. We did some baking yesterday too which was rather messy and I had to do all the washing up! sad

I've added a couple of new ideas above, there are some ideas and some additional websites and apps you might want to use.

If you make any of the creative ideas don't forget to send us some pictures. It's been lovely hearing from you and seeing what you've been doing.

If you like Lego, have a go at the 30 day Lego challenge, there are some great ideas. I might even have a go myself! smiley

We hope you have a lovely day today and will be checking in again tomorrow

Take care everyone

Love from Mrs Partington and Miss James

Monday 30th March 2020

Good morning Year 1. We hope you have had a lovely weekend. Did you all remember to put the clocks forward on Saturday? Did it make a difference to your sleep?

Unfortunately the weather has changed a little bit. If you were awake early this morning you might have seen the quick snow flurry that came down. It didn't last long though!

What are your plans for this week? Are you managing to complete some of the home learning work? Don't worry if you haven't, Miss James and I hope you got outside a lot last week and enjoyed the sun blush and there are lots of other activities you can do too. (Miss James added a few last week). If you can, have a look around your garden. Are there any signs of spring yet?

We have added an indoor scavenger hunt for you to have a go at. This might be a great activity if the weather isn't too good.

Remember that Joe Wicks is doing a morning PE lesson every day at 9am to kick start and energise your day! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyCLoPd4VxBvQafyve889qVcPxYEjdSTl

Keep looking at books and enjoying stories this week. Reading is such a lovely way to pass the time. Even Mrs Partington is going to try and read more books this week!

We'll be checking in with you again tomorrow and we'll be adding some more activities to have a go at.  Have a lovely day today and remember you can always email any messages or photographs to the school and they will be forwarded to us.

Stay safe everyone

From Mrs Partington and Miss James wink

Friday 27th March 2020

Happy Friday guys! laugh

My weather report says today will potentially be our last super sunny day for a few days so make the most of it!

I've been following a great YouTube challenge by a lady called Natasha Lamb who if offering a daily British Sign Language lesson. Why not give it a try and start from Lesson 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR2Zb7TbiOA

BSL is a great skill and something that isn't taught in school. How many signs can you remember?

Oddizzi have released a great Geography challenge and because Mrs Partington is Geography lead in school i'm sure you would make her very proud completing the activities. The booklet covers Year 1 and Year 2 learning so this is a chance to get ahead of ourselves in Geography! (I will add the document below.)

On Friday's we had the opportunity to do Forest School in Autumn 1, why not take your parents on a local walk or walk around the garden, at a much slower pace, and see how many of these mini beasts you can find! Check under logs and hedgerows and think about the habitats they live in and why they might have decided to live there! (I will add the document below.)

If you are staying indoors today why not complete a Shape hunt around your house and make a colourful poster like the picture below! 3D shapes are all around us, how many can you find?

Happy learning Year 1!

Last push until the weekend tomorrow! Have you got any special weekend treats you are looking forward to? I am making a fire in the garden tonight and toasting marsh mellows! YUM!

From Miss James and Mrs Partington :)

Thursday 26th March 2020 - Afternoon

Good Afternoon 1J and 1P!  yes

Check out this great resource to aid learning Maths at home!

How have you found learning Maths at home? Have you noticed how much we need Maths in our day to day lives?

Learning time, measure, money and shape can all be done easily at home! Keep working hard! laugh

Thursday 26th March 2020

Good morning Year 1!

Another sunny day to enjoy in the garden laugh

In Year 1, we learn about all the different coins and notes that are available. Why not ask your grown ups to teach you about all the different coins. You could draw or trace the coins and make your own money by cutting them out.

Why stop there! :) Why not help your grown ups today by making healthy meals and set up your own cafe. You can write price tags and add up your very own coins to pay.

Test yourself with a game online: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game

Please send any photos if you want to share what you've been up to!

Have another great day, keep busy and keep smiling :)

From Miss James and Mrs Partington

Wednesday 25th March 2020

We challenge you to complete the cereal box challenge (or any box you can find!)

Be creative and make whatever you want. Why not look around the house to try and find ideas before starting.

You could design your box before starting, label your your design and gather everything you need to make your creation.

Good luck!
