Welcome to Year 2

We are looking forward to a fantastic year with you all. We will post information on here and send out messages via the app. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher for any additional information.

PE

2DT will have outdoor PE on Tuesday and indoor PE on Wednesday..

2M will have PE on Tuesday indoors and outdoors on a Wednesday.

Children should come to school wearing their PE kit.

Please ensure your child is wearing: navy or black shorts/leggings/joggers, white or house colour T-shirt and a black or navy sweatshirt.

REMOVE EARRINGS before school or cover over.

Books

Children's reading books will be changed each week. Your child could be asked to read to an adult at any point during the week. Please ensure they have their reading books and reading record with them every day. Please sign and comment in their reading records whenever they read at home as this will help us to monitor how often the children are reading.

Your child will also visit the school library every week and have the chance to change their book. Please ensure your child has their book on their library day.

What are we learning?

Our first Autumn Topic focuses on plants - What are the key parts called? What do they need to grow? What are the names of common plants?

We will visit RHS Bridgewater to help the children learn the answers to these questions. We will also explore plants through our Forest School lessons. Forest School lessons take place on Wednesday and please make sure your child has the correct clothing in school to change into.

What are we doing in Spring?

Our Spring topics focuses on The Great Fire of London, who started it? When did it happen? How did it change London? We will be going on a trip to Staircase House to learn more about this topic. We will also be doing some writing and art based on the sea.

What are we doing in Summer?

During the Summer term we are focusing on Animals including humans- What is the lifecycle of different creatures? what offspring animals have? What do different animals need to survive?

We will visit Chester Zoo so the children can see some of the animals that we will be learning about.
